Celebrate the 4th of July in Williamsburg, Virginia
Celebrate the 4th of July in Williamsburg VA at Colonial Williamsburg, the place where America’s story began. Our Independence Day is made even more special when it is celebrated in an area that was home to so many of the significant moments that led to the American Revolution, and thusly, our nation’s independence. For the Williamsburg 4th of July holiday, there are several special events planned. Visitors will be able to walk where Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence, once walked, as well as hear the Declaration read aloud on the courthouse steps. In the evening, there will be a special performance from Colonial Williamsburg’s Fifes and Drums, performing a concert of patriot music on a stage behind the Courthouse on Market Square, from 8:15pm-9:15pm. Then, at approximately 9:15pm, the Fireworks Finale will take place. The high flying aerial fireworks will be visible from much of the historic area. The best places to see these spectacular fireworks are from Market Square, Palace Green, or the Public Hospital grounds.
A Governor’s Palace Picnic is also planned from 7:30-9:30pm on Monday, July 4. The event is an all-American picnic featuring festive holiday entertainment including performances by musicians, dancers, storytellers and balladeers, plus plenty of games for the kids. Guests will dine on a variety of chilled picnic favorites and Colonial Williamsburg specialties, receive a free commemorative picnic blanket and be able to march with the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums to a premium, reserved viewing area for the fireworks finale. This does cost extra and is not included with regular Colonial Williamsburg admission. Pricing is $55 for adults and $25 for children 12 and under.
You can also choose to celebrate the 4th of July with Brews, Blues and BBQ, three of America’s favorite traditions. Scheduled for 5:30-10:30pm, this event features musical performances from Lil’ Ronnie and the Grand Dukes, specially brewed Colonial Williamsburg beers and delicious American barbeque. Food service is from 5:30-9pm, with the concert beginning at 6:00pm. Fireworks will start at 9:15pm. Location for this event is the Virginia Lawn at the Williamsburg Lodge. Tickets for this event are $28 for adults and $12 for children 6-12.
While visiting Williamsburg for the Independence Day holiday, view the Declarations of Independence Exhibit at the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum. The exhibit features five copies of the famous document printed in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration on Independence. Today, only about 30 copies remain of the original 200 copies. Viewing these copies on our nation’s Independence Day is especially moving.
