Yorktown Victory Center Marks 231st Anniversary of Historic Battle

The annual Yorktown Victory Celebration to commemorate the decisive Revolutionary War victory at Yorktown will take place October 20-21 from 9am-5pm. Come for a weekend of military re-enactments, musket and artillery demonstrations, and hands-on programs suitable for all ages.

Visitors can learn firsthand what it was like to be a soldier in the Revolutionary War during “A School for the Soldier.” This program will offer opportunities to drill with wooden muskets and mock combat, plus experience a soldier’s provisions and sleeping quarters. Sessions will be offered at 10:35am and 12:35pm on Saturday and Sunday.

For cooking and textile demonstrations, come to the 1780s farm. “The Price of Liberty” program also takes place at the farm and will explore the sacrifices that had to be made to break free from Great Britain. Program begins at 10:05am.

The Yorktown Victory Celebration follows Yorktown Day taking place October 19. This marks the official anniversary of the British surrender to American forces in 1781. There will be a parade and special ceremonies to commemorate the event.

The Yorktown Victory Celebration event is included in the regular admission of $9.75 for adults and $5.50 for kids 6-12. The Yorktown Victory Center is open 9-5 daily.
